Fans on nightshift to save The Lane

Culture and Leisure groundsman Peter Bailey was yesterday trying to pump water off the Footes Lane pitch as part of the mammoth effort to try to get this afternoon’s FA Vase semi-final first leg between Guernsey FC and Spennymoor Town played. Guernsey FC fans rose to the occasion last night, taking it in turns to operate pitch driers throughout the night in an effort to make the Footes Lane ground playable for today’s FA Vase semi-final against Spennymoor Town.

The club put out an appeal on the Twitter network at about 11pm calling for volunteers: ‘SOS: We need 2 volunteers every 2 hours to push the driers at Footes Lane throughout the night’.

A couple of hours later the slots were filled.

Work continues this morning and the match is still scheduled to kick off at 3pm.
