‘Positive signs’ for consensus model of government

AN INVESTIGATION into reforming the structure of Guernsey’s government is on target to report on time – and early indications are that people are keen to keep the existing consensus model.
The States Review Committee is under a direction to report to the Assembly this year with its initial findings.
Chief Minister Peter Harwood said the first session of evidence gathering had virtually been completed. It includes responses from deputies, former States members, douzeniers and individuals like former Bailiff Sir de Vic Carey.
‘We’ve got to a stage where I think members of the committee are beginning to assimilate their ideas on the back of information and comments we’ve received,’ said Deputy Harwood, pictured. ‘The intention is to have a public consultation, but to use that as a means of testing some ideas.’
