SUNSHINE greeted the return of the Viaer Marchi last night as the event returned in fine form to Saumarez Park.
After last year’s washout – which forced its cancellation – organisers estimated that nearly 6,000 people flocked to the evening of traditional Guernsey activities and fare.
Chairman of the Viaer Marchi committee Roddy Dudley-Smith said it was great to see the park so full of people enjoying themselves.
‘This is a marvellous occasion. We were owed fine weather and hopefully tonight has gone some way to making it up to people for last year – they seem to have had a good time.’
National Trust of Guernsey co-ordinator Tim Spencer was manning the ticket desk and said the sheer volume of people passing through – and filling the car parking field – showed the event was as popular with the public as ever.
