Bus drivers threaten to strike – again
Saturday 31st August 2013, 11:00AM BST.
BUS drivers will meet over the weekend to decide whether to strike on Wednesday as the row with operator CT Plus rumbles on.
Unite union representative Bob Lanning confirmed drivers would be meeting tomorrow evening due to a disagreement over duty rotas.
However, CT Plus parent company HCT Group communication’s director Frank Villenueve-Smith was confident there would not be a repeat of the disruption in June.
A one-day driver strike saw the company miss out on roughly 7,000 passenger journeys.
‘As a consequence of the ongoing dialogue, we believe that strike action is vanishingly unlikely,’ he said.
Mr Lanning said action over pay had already been avoided this month thanks to constructive discussions with the operator.
However, he said drivers were now angry about fresh changes to their duty rotas.
‘Apparently, the company introduced new rotas this week without consulting with the drivers,’ he said.
