Riding out to remember Oakley
Monday 2nd September 2013, 3:00PM BST.
ABOUT 500 motorcycles took to the road yesterday for the Full-Boar Motorcycle Club’s ninth annual Oakley Spin.
The event is held in memory of Oakley Waterman, who died aged six from a rare type of cancer on 17 August 2005, the son of former Portsmouth and Oxford United footballer Dave Waterman.
In the last months of his life, Oakley and his family stayed in a caravan at Pagham, Chichester.
The stay was organised through the Clic Sargent children’s cancer charity. The boy’s wish was to provide a caravan for other children in similar situations which led to the formation of the Oakley Waterman Caravan Foundation. It now has caravans at Pagham and at Devon Cliffs, Exeter, which have been used by more than 500 families.
