WINNING £1,000 is not as important as gaining three new friends, according to Come Dine With Me victor Gemma Sparkes, 28.
After filming the episode in April, the months of waiting were finally over as Channel 4 aired the episode last night and Miss Sparkes could finally tell everyone about winning the show.
‘It has been ridiculously hard keeping the secret. I have had to really play down my knowledge of cooking to put people off the scent. I spent the money on an engagement party.’
Scallops, braised ox-cheek and home-made ice cream served on a slate-map of Guernsey secured the wannabe chef the points she needed to win. ‘I absolutely love to cook and am looking forward to my five minutes of fame – I would like to be recognised. But it is a big thanks to the other guys who took part. I have made some good new friends.’
Second place went to the youngest contestant of the night, Ben Inder, 21, who had supreme confidence in his cooking ability, proudly saying, ‘God, I’m good’, after tasting his food.
