Couple die in plane crash off Jersey
Thursday 5th September 2013, 3:00PM BST.
A HUSBAND and wife from Derby died when their private plane crashed into the sea off Jersey in fog yesterday morning.
Businessman Carl Whiteley, who was reported to be the pilot of the twin-engined Cessna Crusader, and his wife, Kathryn, had two daughters.
A large-scale search, involving the Guernsey-based Channel Islands Air Search, RNLI lifeboats, a French military helicopter, a French passenger ferry heading to Sark and a Royal Navy ship, was launched just after 10am when it was reported that the light aircraft had crashed around five miles off St Ouen’s Bay.
It is believed the aircraft, which was on a flight from Dinan in France to Jersey, was on approach to the airport.
The wreckage was found later in the morning.
Jersey Police announced yesterday afternoon that it believed there were no survivors.
