A DERBY businessman who was killed when the plane he was piloting crashed into the sea near Jersey has been described locally as the ‘fun guy at the party’.
Carl Whiteley and his wife, Kathryn, both 55, died when their twin-engine Cessna Crusader ditched five miles off St Ouen’s Bay on Wednesday morning.
They were regular visitors to Guernsey.
Guernsey Aero Club committee member Rob Le Page said he knew the couple reasonably well and he enjoyed their company.
‘Carl was particularly fun to be with,’ he said. ‘He was one of those people you could call the fun guy at the party.’
