Rougeval armed response keeps people from homes

SEVERAL Rougeval Estate residents were unable to return to their homes on Saturday night as armed police officers detained a 28-year-old man.
Police were called to a house on the estate at around 10pm and armed officers were deployed in support of others who were already there.
Inspector Trevor Coleman said the man, who was alleged to have been making threats to harm someone, was arrested. ‘After a period of negotiation the man was safely arrested and has been detained in custody pending further enquiries,’ he added.
He has been charged with assault and making a threat to kill.
Residents said there was a strong police presence and officers were posted on the pedestrian steps at the top of the estate and at the bottom entrance.
One resident, Linda Le Gallais, 61, was unaware of what was happening until her son returned home. Officers had escorted him to their house for his safety. ‘My son was at a wedding and I didn’t know that there was something going on until he got home,’ she said. ‘The police escorted him up here as he had a baby with him.’
