TV stolen from Hauteville flat after fire
Tuesday 10th September 2013, 1:24PM BST.
SEEING his flat destroyed in a blaze was bad enough, but a Hauteville tenant suffered further misery when thieves walked in just hours later to steal his flat screen television.
Sean Queripel, 47, returned the morning after the fire to check on his heavily smoke-damaged home – one of a block of flats next to the historic Victor Hugo House – only to find that burglars had snatched the 36in. flat screen while the property was being left open to ventilate.
The LG television was the only item stolen after the fire on Friday evening, which had already destroyed his possessions, including a sofa and chest of drawers. The builder, who is currently out of work, said he was left angry and in disbelief by the opportunistic thefts.
‘To have the TV go missing like that – it’s the lowest of the low,’ he said. ‘I just don’t know how anyone could do it. They didn’t take anything else apart from the TV and the remote control for the TV. But how could they walk in there after the fire and do that? I came in on Saturday morning and saw it had gone.
‘I was raring. It was a brand new TV, not even six months old.’
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the burglary, which occurred sometime between 6pm on Friday and 11am on Saturday
