Deputies asked to support University of Channel Islands
Friday 20th September 2013, 9:20AM BST.
STATES members will be asked to signal their support for a ‘boutique’ university in Guernsey later this month.
A private sector group is looking to establish whether deputies would embrace the ambitious proposals, which if welcomed could see the first phase begin in October next year.
In its report, the Policy Council recommended the States gives its support in principle to the concept, while also recognising the need for detailed discussions on a number of key issues through a small liaison group chaired by the chief minister.
The ‘internationally recognised and respected small, boutique university’ would be delivered by a private sector group that would not seek funding or wish to involve the States in the governance structure of the institution.
