Businesses get serious about mental health

GUERNSEY businesses are starting to take the mental health issues of staff more seriously.
A massive turnout for Guernsey Mind’s conference yesterday on Managing Mental Wellbeing in the Workplace reinforced the charity’s increasing links with local companies through its employment project, which it launched two years ago.
‘One of the things we wanted to do from the conference was ensure that it was practical, and that employers could take something away to do or to think about,’ said John Curran, chairman of the charity.
‘As we have seen today, some of it is very simple, even down to starting a conversation. People can be so nervous about the stigma of mental health and worried about using the wrong language that they’d rather not speak about it.’
