Union will back staff over pension strikes

MORE than 1,000 States workers will have the full support of their union leader over strike action if deputies approve pension reforms without the agreement of staff.
Unite the Union regional officer Bob Lanning, pictured, yesterday backed staff who, after attending Thursday night’s private meeting on proposed pension changes, said they would take industrial action if the new deal was forced on them by the States.
He suggested there could be marches in the streets if deputies voted through the plans when they are presented to them in January. Deputy Allister Langlois, chairman of the Pensions Consultative Committee, said he would be taking it to the States with or without worker agreement.
‘If they did decide to strike, then obviously I would support them.’
