Man City’s Pellegrini a big name for Guernsey image rights

MANCHESTER City manager Manuel Pellegrini has applied to register his image in Guernsey.
The application was made through local company Finsbury Image Rights. Managing director Jose Luis Romanillos said he could not comment on the move at this stage. ‘This is what Guernsey image rights has been waiting for – he is a massive name,’ he said.
‘He was manager for Real Madrid, one of the biggest and wealthiest clubs in the world. We are delighted for Finsbury but we are also delighted for Guernsey and the Guernsey Registry. When we told them about the application you could hear the shouting and dancing in the background.’
The application has been published on Guernsey’s Intellectual Property Office website for 20 days to allow time for any objections.
Mr Romanillos said the company was also in talks with other big names. However, he was not prepared to say who they were.
Image rights legislation was introduced in Guernsey last year. It enables the management and control of the commercial use of a person’s identity and images associated with that person, including distinctive expressions, characteristics or attributes.
Guernsey Registry communications manager Emma Walton said that with any new product or service, registrations took time to build.
‘Whilst the registry will not comment on any individual applications or registrations, it is very pleasing to see the development of this groundbreaking legislation,’ she said.
