Power cut disrupts businesses
Wednesday 2nd October 2013, 10:00AM BST.
DISRUPTION was caused to areas of the island yesterday after a diesel generator fault caused a power cut.
Guernsey Electricity blamed the outage on ‘a technical issue’ with one of its generators, but confirmed that the fault was not on its new £14m. unit.
The States-owned utility said the Bridge, Cobo to Port Soif, St Andrew’s, Torteval, St Saviour’s, Forest and Castel had no supply for nearly 30 minutes.
‘Power to these areas was lost at 11.11am and was restored at 11.26am. The issue with the generator is now being resolved. Guernsey Electricity would like to apologise to all customers who were affected.’
The biggest casualties were the island’s two radio stations, which were both forced off the air.
Rockmount bar manager Rei Rantrioa said the timing of the cut meant it did not affect lunchtime service. ‘It it had been later, it would have been worse.’
