August sees 10% drop in bus passengers
Thursday 3rd October 2013, 9:15AM BST.
THE number of bus passengers fell by 10% in August compared to the same month last year.
A total of 161,496 people used the service, a drop of 18,393 on 2012.
The 1,003,671 total journeys taken in the first eight months of 2013 are 45,871 down on the same period in 2012 – a drop of more than 4%.
A spokesman for the Environment Department said following the introduction of new fares and timetables in May, direct comparisons to previous years could not be made, though any discrepancies would only be minor.
The fall in passengers was revealed as the chairman of the Bus Users Group said that failure to implement the winter timetable properly would be ‘the last straw’ for the service.
