Bass anglers call for action to halt decline in stocks
Monday 7th October 2013, 4:00PM BST.
ACTION needs to be taken now to stop the decline in bass stocks, Guernsey anglers have said.
Over the last few years the number of catches of the much sought-after species has plummeted and anglers have spoken of the need to act now to let stocks recover.
Commerce and Employment said its data showed bass numbers had dropped in the past two years.
But the department said any management measures would have to be applied at EU level to stand a chance of achieving a successful outcome.
Bailiwick Bass Club president Daryl Butcher, 50, has only caught one bass this year.
He said trawlers could be part of the bigger problem.
