Pupils will suffer if Book Week is lost
Tuesday 8th October 2013, 1:00PM BST.
CHILDREN would miss out on having their ‘education enriched’ if no sponsor is found for next year’s Book Week, La Mare de Carteret Primary head teacher has said.
The annual reading promotion is under threat after Ardel Holdings withdrew its backing after 15 years.
The week, which started yesterday, costs £8,000 to put on and Schools Library Service has provided the funding for this year’s event but had previously said it could not do solong-term.
Diane Hand, of La Mare de Carteret Primary, said pupils get a lot out of having authors visit and it would be a shame to see it cease.
‘It would be really, really missed and we do appreciate how much it costs but it just such a great opportunity for them.’
