Anger from parents as Education explains St Sampson’s Infants closure plans

PARENTS of St Sampson’s Infants grew increasingly dissatisfied with answers from Education at last night’s meeting discussing the school’s potential closure.
The meeting was attended by more than 60 people.
One parent with a background in the construction industry asked whether the department could guarantee that improvement works at Vale Primary, to accommodate the influx of pupils, could be contained at the department’s £450,000 estimate.
‘I fear that is going to be a very fluid figure – the plans aren’t even finished,’ he said.
It led to further questions about whether the Education’s estimates about what savings could be made were accurate. Chief officer Jon Buckland gave an assurance that all estimates were conservative – costings for building works included a contingency reserve.
