Deputy issues public apology after calling islanders ‘inbreds’
Monday 14th October 2013, 1:00PM BST.
A POLITICIAN who referred to islanders as ‘inbreds’ has issued a public apology.
Deputy Elis Bebb was immediately reprimanded by Deputy Barry Paint for his choice of words in an internal email originally intended to highlight the breakdown of negotiations between Treasury and Herm’s tenant to extend the island’s lease.
‘I do not and never have held the views portrayed by the Press and would consider such a view to be contemptible,’ he said.
‘The comment was meant in jest and was received in that way by most deputies.
‘Deputy Paint registered his offence and I’ve apologised to him as I never meant the comment seriously.’
He added Deputy Paint had since accepted his apology.
