Armed robbery arrests as shops boost security
Thursday 17th October 2013, 12:00PM BST.
TWO local men were arrested yesterday in connection with an armed robbery at Longstore Handy Stores.
Workers in the area said they have been left in shock by the crime, in which a member of staff was allegedly threatened with what appeared to be a handgun and a knife.
Security at Longstore Handy Stores has been increased, with staff now carrying individual alarms and a number of panic buttons installed.
Other nearby businesses said they already had strengthened security after facing similar attacks in recent years.
And Handy Stores’ neighbour, the Chinese Gourmet Takeaway, said staff would now leave together so that no one was at the premises alone late at night.
Police confirmed that no charges had yet been brought against the men, adding it would be inappropriate to release any more details at this time.
