Menacing text messages led to armed stand-off
Saturday 19th October 2013, 9:36AM BST.
A SIX-hour police stand-off resulted from a man sending menacing text messages to the phone of his mother’s boyfriend, a court was told.
The Magistrate’s Court heard how Kelvin Batiste, 28, of no fixed address, was surrounded by armed police officers during an incident at Rougeval Estate, St Peter Port, following concerns over the content of the messages sent to his mother’s partner.
Crown Advocate Fiona Russell said Batiste’s messages contained a warning directed towards his mother stating that he still had ‘shotguns’.
Batiste, who pleaded guilty to the offence, was sentenced to 90 hours of community service as a direct alternative to three months in prison.
