PUBLIC Services will be speaking next month to companies interested in providing facilities to implement the island’s long-term waste strategy.
These are needed to extract recyclables, treat food waste, and prepare material that cannot be recycled for export.
Department minister Paul Luxon, pictured, expects to begin the tendering process for these early next year.
The food waste processing plant, known as an in-vessel composter, and the transfer station for export will be new facilities located at Longue Hougue.
These are expected to be awarded as a single contract to include their design, build and operation.
Different options are being considered for the third element – the materials recovery facility.
This plant will process household recyclables and could potentially also include commercial waste segregation.
