2014 will be critical for island finances, says Treasury minister

NEXT year will be ‘critical’ for the States as it looks towards how it is going to ensure the future security of the island’s finances, the Treasury and Resources minister has said.
Gavin St Pier said 2014 was the time for choices to be made about how the island’s government was going to eliminate the deficit and move towards long-term structural balance.
He was responding to comments made in the Annual Independent Fiscal Review, which was released last week.
The author of the report highlighted that key targets were being missed and that decisions needed to be made.
Deputy St Pier said the review was a ‘timely endorsement’ of the current fiscal policy following the release of the 2014 Budget.
