A MAN has been taken to hospital after being Tasered by police.
The individual, whom the force said was in possession of knives and was threatening to harm officers and himself, has been arrested for assault on police and criminal damage.
He is still in hospital receiving treatment after also injecting himself with what are described as ‘various substances’. It is only the second time that police have discharged the electric shock device since it was introduced.
Guernsey Police confirmed that the incident took place on Wednesday. A police spokesman said officers had been called to a property in St Sampson’s to deal with a domestic issue.
It was at that property that the man was shot with a Taser and incapacitated.
‘A violent 40-year-old man, in possession of knives and a hypodermic needle, threatened officers and also self-harm, having consumed and injected various substances,’ said the spokesman. ‘Armed and unarmed officers were deployed and he was subsequently arrested for assault on police and criminal damage.’
