Petrol station owners argue their prices are fair

FUEL retailers have disputed claims by a deputy that they were keeping prices high to make more money.
But they had mixed views on Heidi Soulsby’s statement that the island has far more petrol-selling garages than it needs.
Before the States voted through a 5% increase in fuel duty as part of the Budget on Tuesday, Deputy Soulsby said that for such a small island there were too many fuel stations.
She also claimed the island was paying fuel importers and retailers over 26% more in Guernsey than in the UK and that it led her to suppose someone was ‘doing OK here’.
