Rescue team shocked at amount of rubbish dumped over cliffs
Friday 1st November 2013, 12:00PM GMT.
A CAR boot lid, a fridge and more than a dozen tyres were among the rubbish hauled up from the cliff face at La Prevote yesterday by the St John Ambulance and Rescue Service cliff rescue team as part of a training exercise.
Cliff rescue instructor Andy Adam was appalled by how much trash the five-man team discovered at the St Peter’s beauty spot.
The team practises about four or five times a year to ensure they are ready for real emergencies.
Mr Adam said when they had spoken to the Environment Department about their latest practice, it had been suggested they could help clear up some fly-tipped rubbish.
But the team had not expected to find so much. An hour had been put aside for the work, but it took nearly three hours.
