Warning after mystery white substance washes up at Saints Bay
Friday 1st November 2013, 1:00PM GMT.
A WHITE substance that could be harmful to pets has washed up on a Guernsey beach.
Waxy lumps were first spotted in Cornwall nearly two weeks ago and then reported in Jersey last week.
A similar material was spotted at Saints Bay, St Martin’s, yesterday.
An Environment Department spokeswoman said they knew that a number of dogs had been taken ill in the UK after eating the lumps, which later turned out to be a degraded oil or fat.
The substance found here will now be analysed to determine if it is from the same source.
Anyone finding white deposits is asked to report it to the Environment Services Unit by calling 717200 or emailing email@example.com.
