Deputies get secret update on Herm lease
Saturday 2nd November 2013, 11:27AM GMT.
TREASURY gave a secret briefing yesterday to deputies over negotiations with Herm’s tenant for a lease extension.
The department held the private meeting during lunch on day four of the States meeting, to update them on negotiations that are said to have broken down.
Herm Island Ltd chairman John Singer announced last month that he was no longer prepared to invest in infrastructure because the department had ignored independent valuations for a 21-year extension of his lease.
Treasury and Resources minister Deputy Gavin St Pier refused to reveal details after the briefing, stating the department did not wish to ‘conduct negotiations through the media’.
Mr Singer, however, yesterday said there had been absolutely no progress with talks with T&R.
‘The Herm community has received a great deal of sympathy from regular Herm guests and from certain other deputies, but no further communication between T&R and Herm has been invited or taken place,’ he said.
