CGi Technology Challenge
Tuesday 21st June 2011, 2:29PM BST.
Bloodhound SSC project leader Richard Noble brought a model of the car in which Wing Commander Andy Green next year hopes to take the land speed record to more than 1,000mph.
GOOD-HUMOURED deputies suffered a soaking at the hands of young technology students yesterday.
The Cable & Wireless-sponsored ‘need for speed’ 2011 CGi Technology Challenge was to design two buggies to carry a Lego man as fast as possible towards a sensor that tipped a bucket of water, soaking a States member in the process. Prizes were given for the best design and the best performing device.
Special guest Richard Noble – former holder of the world land speed record – was impressed by what he saw.
‘This event is exactly the sort of thing we need to encourage young people to work as a team,’ he said. ‘The future of Britain is getting back into engineering and manufacturing as the financial market has failed. We need at least 50,000 apprentices.’
