THE Environment Department has received enquiries about making donations to its appeal to rebuild the Saumarez Park playground.
A spokesperson said it was too early to release further details but added that people were planning to hold fund-raising events.

The department has appealed to businesses to fund the £500,000 refurbishment of the playground. Once built, Environment will pay for the maintenance of the new equipment but the total cost of putting it up will have to be met through donations.

The new playground will be split into three distinct areas catering for different age groups and will have an overriding pirate theme.

Much of the equipment will be designed so both able-bodied and disabled children can use it.

* Anyone interested in making a donation to the scheme should contact the Environment Department on 717200.
