HERM was a double winner at last night’s Floral Guernsey community competition awards.
The island took home the overall prize for community and the award for best local environment and will represent the Bailiwick in the Britain in Bloom contest next year.
Britain in Bloom judge John Woodward commended every one of the seven parishes which took part, saying judges had seen an ‘overall raising of standards’. But he recognised that working to beautify the island was not without its difficulties.
‘We are all aware of the litter problems in Town. To enhance the place as a tourist attraction, we need to do something about it.’

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
The sooner the litter problem is sorted the better .lots of places have instant fines ,this is what we need here .i am sick of the town being full of cigarette ends
there are available bins ,but because the states made the law that no one was allowed to smoke inside the places has become one big ash tray
more ciggi bins and more fins for those who don’t use the available bins
the revenue from the fines would pay it way for a litter warden .
the police must also play their part.too often they stand and watch the litter bugs in town
and it is not only youngster who do this is it older folks who stand outside and throw the cigarette ends on the pavements .a few fines and people will soon get the message .
Also Herm is a worthy winner a beautiful little Parisian on our door steps .and i wish them well in their entry into Britain in bloom.
