Facebook status ‘problems’ probed
Monday 21st October 2013, 5:12PM BST.
Social media giant Facebook is investigating after users were unable to update their status.
Those logging on to the site today have been unable to post missives updating friends about their lives and thoughts.
While users were able to type into the status bar, they were unable to send posts.
Users were met with an error message from Facebook saying: ” There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes.”
A tweet on the Twitter page of Iain Mackenzie, who is listed as a p an-Europe communications manager for Facebook, said: ” We are aware that some people are having problems posting to Facebook and we’re looking into it.”
Michael Allen, a director with technology performance firm Compuware, said: ” This outage will have an enormous impact on millions, potentially even billions of people.
“However, it’s not just Facebook and its users who are suffering as a result of these problems. If you look at the Outage Analyser service, at least 3,587 other domains were impacted, although the actual number is likely to be far greater.
“This is because many other businesses and websites are connected to Facebook through the integration of services from Facebook.
“For example, Facebook is used to enable people to log in to many other sites and applications. Any organisation that is seeing errors or slowdowns with their own site or application this afternoon should check to see if they are relying on Facebook services before they start firefighting as this might be the cause.”
Users reported being able to post status updates after an outage of around three hours.
