Phil wants to bring Location to Guernsey
Friday 21st October 2011, 2:29PM BST.
PRESENTER and property expert Phil Spencer wants to bring hit show Location, Location, Location to Guernsey – he’s just waiting for an invitation.
The 41-year-old (pictured), who presents alongside Kirstie Allsopp, has taken the Channel 4 programme to Jersey and sees no reason why other Channel Islands shouldn’t get a star turn.
‘I’d love to bring Location here. We just need to be invited over. People need to get in touch with us.’
In Guernsey yesterday, Mr Spencer was guest speaker at a Barclays Wealth thought leadership event. He also gave a property seminar in Guernsey in 2007 and admitted that the market had got much tougher since his last visit.

He should bring his programme to Alderney – we have houses for sale that his viewers are allowed to both buy and live in.

Of course he can only invite people tp purchase on the OPEN MARKET.

Housing Minister

Hello
………but would they want to?

Oh dear Mr Jones, you really should have spell-checked your comment before posting it. It doesn’t say much for those trusted with governing the island when the (supposed) Housing Minister can’t even spell! It’s probably a good job you’re not the Education Minister…..
Just a thought, but would he not be able to present a programme helping LOCAL people wishing to buy a LOCAL MARKET property?
Your comment appears to be very short-sighted at best, and dare I even say aggressive of you, to automatically assume that Johnny Foreigner would be invited to try and buy a local market property?
This could be/have been a fantastic opportunity to showcase Guernsey on prime-time TV in front of an audience of millions, thereby (potentially) giving a huge boost to the tourism industry and therefore the island’s economy. It’s probably a good job you’re not the Tourism or Finance Minister either…..
It would serve you right if he now told you to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine…..

A single typo and you are making an issue. The typing or spelling issues are neither here nor there for a deputy to do a good job. They tend to have secretaries for the finer points that petty people like you look out for.

So because of a single typo my position as Housing Minister is suspect? Well we are all entitled to our views. I think the majority of posters knew what I meant. This is a UK programme which helps UK residents look at re-locating to live somewhere else, either another part of the UK or somewhere abroad. What I attempted to do was to point out that UK residents will only be able to relocate to Guernsey through those properties available on the Open Market, a perfectly legitimate observation. Granted I could have made it clearer.

I can’t see much audience mileage in a national TV programme about Guernsey people buying a local market property
It’s probably a good job you’re not a TV producer (apologies if you are!)

As Mr Spencer is a “Property Expert” one would expect that should he be invited to find anyone, be they from outside the island or a local, a house, then he would thoroughly research the property market in Guernsey and be aware of the housing limitations and restrictions.
WATM..I’m not convinced the show would do anything for Guernsey in terms of a showcase to boost to tourism as all it would highlight are the skyhigh property and utlity prices, not to mention the restrictive market options for certain types of house buyer, a program featuring the delights of our many restaurants, scenic cliffs etc would be better suited.
I think what MR Jones meant was that Johnny foriegner is most welcome to our wonderful Island, we have many open market properties in wonderful locations for you to choose from.

Dave
Are you sure that’s right? I thought that anyone could buy a local market property? They may not be able to live in it but they are entitled to own it aren’t they?
Mr Jones…
I think you are thinking of relocation relocation relocation….
WATM has a perfectly valid point, he could come over here to help locals, or those on restricted licenses.

Ray – there is just as much mileage in your example as in a programme about a couple in Kent wanting to find a 3 bedroom house in Whitstable…
The programme does not rely on the houses being of direct relevance to the viewers. The programme is a human interest piece, coupled with the UK’s obsession about house prices and looking in other people’s houses.
I cannot see why it would be any different to take a young couple looking to move out of a flat in Town, showing them a nice victorian villa in Vale, a cottage in a wooded valley in St Saviours and a post-war house with a sea view on the West coast. Viewers in the UK would love it.

Phil
That of course is true but having watched the programme it is based on people moving to another area or country, what would be the point in buying a property in order to move if you could not lawfully occupy it. Of course you could buy it to rent out but as I said from what I have seen the purpose of the programme is based predominantly on people looking to move.

Come to Alderney Phil, forget Guernsey. Plenty of property here as someone has said before.
