Rural area hopes for ‘Fred in the shed’

HOUSING and properties suitable for ‘Fred in the shed’ style businesses could be developed in and around rural centres if the States agrees to a new strategic land use plan.
New guidelines put forward by the Strategic Land Planning Group, which could act as an overarching policy for Environment’s development plans, call for more flexibility to current rules.
Group chairman Bernard Flouquet (pictured) said the new plan had to satisfy modern expectations.
‘Through consultation, the SLPG identified there is no appetite for a major shift in policy,’ he said. ‘However, the principle of concentrating development solely within the urban areas of Town and the Bridge was regarded as being too restrictive.’

Is this really going to make any difference or make things better?
The problem will still be the planning officers when it comes to interpreting the law for your application. Don’t see the issues going away.
