TOM DRUCE has one last crack at breaking the 46sec. barrier for 400m this track and field campaign when he takes his spikes to Sweden on Saturday week.
Island Games gold medallist Druce, 24, took the island record off Dale Garland in Italy in July, but still harbours an ambition to break into the 45s and is making a push for an Olympic relay berth.
Last weekend, he picked up a £500 winner’s cheque having clocked 47 dead in poor conditions to win the McCain Challenge Final at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Simply winning and not the time was his concern in Birmingham. ‘I just wanted to make sure I won and went off quite slow. I didn’t want to risk going for a time and then failing to get a position.’
