LOUISE PERRIO broke her own course record as the annual winter cross-country league set off for another five-race stint under brilliant blue skies at Delancey and with a record entry.

Around 130 runners of all ages, from under-13s to veterans and novices, were on the start line for the three-lap 5k race and they included one of Jersey’s best distant prospects in many a long year.

And Elliott Dorey, a bronze medallist over 800m at the NatWest Island games in July, caught the eye as he pushed Steve Dawes hard for two laps before settling for second place.

Dorey, not 18 until April and a 1,500 specialist, said the attraction of a quality race virtually on his doorstep was too good to miss.
