Young saves Bels’ day

Sylvans 4, Belgrave Wanderers 5
CRAIG YOUNG’S hat-trick took Bels through to the semi-finals of the Stranger Cup at St Peter’s on Saturday afternoon, which had been much expected.

But while there was much to admire about the winners’ attacking play, their defensive work was worryingly poor for all the club’s followers and its coach, Glyn Smith, who admitted there was much room for improvement at the back after conceding eight goals in two games in the space of four days.

‘I think so. On Tuesday we also gave North three goals from defensive errors,’ said Smith, who watched his men look brittle at the back  against a very spirited home team who refused to be beaten despite falling two goals behind three times and on each occasion quickly getting one back to make Bels’ progress in the competition a very nervy one.

‘To be fair to Sylvans they played with spirit, chased everything down and were very dangerous at set pieces,’ said Smith.
