ALISON MERRIEN bagged a bronze medal in the World Champion of Champions singles in Kowloon yesterday and although it was not the colour of preference, she was highly delighted with her week’s work.

The Guernsey bowls superstar, who struggled to qualify for the knockout stages, showed character in getting there, then went one further and defeated her friend and inter-insular rival Karina Bisson from Jersey in straight sets in the quarter-finals.

But, in a high quality semi-final, she had to give best on a tiebreak to Kiwi star Jo Edwards, whom she has come up against so many times in various world events.

‘I felt I played well for most of the game, but it just ran away from me in the end,’ she said.
