Hughes pots his way to CI crown
Wednesday 23rd November 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
GUERNSEY’S top pool players enjoyed a successful time at the Channel Island Pool Championships in Jersey, with two of the trophies on offer coming back across the water.
Darren Hughes was the sole Sarnian individual winner, picking up the CI Championship men’s singles title, defeating home player Carl Dix 6-4 in a close final.
That competition had seen a shock almost immediately, with highly-tipped James Kirk falling in the early stages, and Hughes and Ashley Perriam the only remaining Sarnians by the quarter-final stage.
But Hughes (pictured) went all the way to win the trophy, with his teammate Denise Cull falling agonisingly short of repeating the trick in the women’s singles event.
