THE Guernsey Sankukai Karate Club recently held a training course and grading examination with the British Sankukai Karate Association’s chief instructor, Sensei Calvin Collins, fifth dan.

The course was held over a weekend and covered eight hours of intensive training.

On the first evening, students of all ages and ability took part in learning and practising grappling techniques, followed by more pair work called ‘ippon kumite’.

The next morning, students went though basic ‘kata’ and ‘randori kata’, which is characteristic of the Sankukai style of karate.
