ANOTHER of Guernsey’s Olympic hopefuls is in great early season shape.
On the same weekend that his good friend Ian Powell was setting island short-course records in Stockport, Tom Hollingsworth was setting new standards in a 50m pool as members of the Beau Sejour Barracudas competed in their first long-course meet of the season, the Crawley Not So Early Bird Open held at the K2 Sports Centre.
Competing against top swimmers from 60 UK Clubs, the Barracuda squad of 15 fared very well despite not having the luxury of training regularly in a 50m pool.
Still in heavy training in preparation for the Olympic trials in March 2012 and using this event as an important long course race practice, Hollingsworth won gold in four events – the 200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley, 200 butterfly and 50 breaststroke, with team mate Joshua Lewis taking second place honours in the latter event.
