THERE will be new men’s and women’s badminton singles champions this year as neither of the 2010 winners are able to defend their titles in next week’s Island Championships.

Multiple Guernsey champion Paul Le Tocq is away and will not be taking part over the four days at the Guernsey Badminton Association Halls in the Rohais, while injury will prevent Gayle Lloyd taking to the court on her own, although she will contest the two doubles disciplines.

The championships start on Monday and matches will be held each evening, starting at 7pm, with the finals on Thursday.
