THE autumn term of the Guernsey Judo Club’s Saturday afternoon training sessions culminated with a Newaza (groundwork) Championship for members aged six to 13 years.
The competition for the junior section was held at the club’s dojo at the Grammar school on Saturday, with nine girls and 28 boys competing in 15 different weight categories.
For many this was their first experience of competitive judo.
The event was officiated by the older members of the junior squad under the watchful eye of area referee Mitch Agnelli, together with his wife Valerie who is a national competition recorder.
