IT IS always a pleasure watching a master at work and those who braved the elements on the morning of the 2011 Island Golf Championships final at L’Ancresse were not disappointed.
It was blowing the proverbial hooley when Bobby Eggo and Danny Blondel teed up in an eagerly anticipated 36-hole contest, but by lunch it was virtually all over.
Eggo’s amazing level-par round that morning was simply a masterclass in good, old-fashioned links golf, of wonderful control of ball flight and a pinpoint short game. On a calm day, it would surely have equated to a round in the mid-to-low 60s.
It put him seven up at lunch and although Blondel fought hard in the afternoon, Eggo wrapped up a 10th island title with a 5 and 4 victory.
