RECORDS have been tumbling on Le Val des Terres throughout the year and Darren Warwick has been in the thick of it.

In August, he became the quickest Channel Islander up the Terres in a remarkable meet which initially saw Nick Saunders break his own previous record to clock 29.33sec., only to see Warwick beat that mark on the same day with a time of 29.31.

‘I bought a new car at the start of the year and I knew it was capable of doing quick times, but it did still come as a surprise,’ Warwick said.

‘I hadn’t actually realised that Nick had done that time because I missed his run, but it was great for him to do so well as well.’

On a day in which another eight class records fell and one was equalled, though, arguably the drive of the day came from James Shorto as he went sub-30 for the first time in his 1,000cc machine, slashing more than one-and-a-half seconds off his father Ian’s previous class best.
