Fifteen-year-old Aimee conquers Channel Islands
Wednesday 28th December 2011, 2:29PM GMT.
IT WAS another year to rewrite the record books for Aimee Ponte.
Two years after winning the Island Women’s Golf Championship for the first time just a few days after turning 13, in 2011 the teenage starlet became the youngest ever winner of a Channel Islands title, male or female.
On the day the sport’s newest superstar, Rory McIlroy, won his first major at the US Open, 15-year-old Ponte (pictured) held her nerve to defeat Jersey champion Jenny Deeley in her own backyard at La Moye.
One down at lunch after leading for much of the morning round before losing 16, 17 and 18, the Guernsey girl responded magnificently.
