The annual Sportingbet CI Sports Personality of the Year awards brought little joy for the ‘Greens’ but one bright spot was the team victory for Guernsey’s cricketers represented on stage at the Hotel de France by Jamie Nussbaumer, being interviewed by Channel Television’s Andy Richards, Ben Ferbrache, Jeremy Frith and Gary Rich. WORLD champion bowler Thomas Greechan was last night crowned the Sportingbet CI Sports Personality of the Year 2011.
At a gala dinner at the Hotel de France in Jersey, the Caesarean received 1,730 of a record 5,174 votes cast by the public to win the award from a shortlist of five.
Netballer Serena Guthrie was second, a little over 200 votes behind, followed by Guernsey trio Jeremy Frith, Lee Merrien and Alison Merrien.
‘It’s amazing, absolutely amazing,’ said Greechan, who received his award from special guest Tim Henman.
