MANY of the island’s sports were represented yesterday on the Albert Pier in the Guernsey Sports Commission’s Celebration of Sport day following the Olympic Torch relay.

Various stalls, exhibitions and demonstrations took place after the exit of the flame on its next leg to Jersey and continued until mid-afternoon, with members of the public being encouraged to take part.

Among the sports was netball, which had two full-size matches taking place with rules traditionally suited to indoor netball, and included several players who recently represented England in the World Series in Australia.

A number of Guernsey FC players were also on show in a large inflatable football pitch that saw matches and penalty shootouts take place.
