ROB SMART completed a perfect day in style as he won a thrilling sprint finish in the Town Centre Criterium through St Peter Port.

Less than two hours after carrying the Olympic Torch on one of its legs through Town, he jumped on the saddle and produced an excellent comeback to win a high-quality Guernsey Velo Club race.

In the women’s category, it was Ann Bowditch who came out on top from Sam Herridge and Karina Bowie, also involved in a ferocious battle with young Daniel Alderton as the race was intertwined with the boys’ category.

Meanwhile, in the juniors, Thierry Le Cheminant and Kylie Vaudin won the two under-eight races, while Alex van Katwyk and Hannah English were the pair of top under-14s.
